About the exhibition

Site specific exhibition exploring the districts history as a site of market gardens and Englands first hothouses. The Botanical Cabinet takes its name from a historical plant publication, The which has inspired three contemporary artists to contemplate notions of migration and naturalisation of plants and of people.

This is a group exhibition of works by Marcia Teusink, Milena Michalski and Tulika Ladsariya responding to the legacy of Loddiges Nursery. The Loddiges were a family of Dutch horticulturalists who settled in Hackney and made very successful business, until industrialisation paved over the area for factories and gasworks.

The exhibition is fascinating and absolutely beautiful. The artists reflect on a range of themes, from growth and hybridisation to travel and migration, never losing the powerful aesthetics of their practice.
